underCover -- The one-size-fits-all solution for your iTunes artwork managment

underCover is an artwork managment tool for iTunes. It intercepts artwork-related communication between iTunes and the iTunes Store and can serve custom artwork or artwork from Amazon and other webservices to iTunes.

How does it work?

The communication between iTunes and the store is unencrypted -- artwork-related communication anyway. underCover has an embedded  proxy server that intercepts artwork requests from iTunes. You can then search different webservices for artwork or add custom artwork which is served to iTunes the next time it asks for it.

Features

  • free and Free (under the terms of the MIT license)
  • Man-in-the-middle proxy server for artwork-communication between iTunes and the iTunes Store
  • Search for artwork on different webservices (Amazon, Last.fm and Google Images, more to follow)
  • Add custom artwork, e.g. from high quality scans
  • Simple image editor to crop and scale artwork
  • Adjust album names to enhance search results from the picky iTunes server (like removing 'Special Edition')
  • Caches encrypted artwork from the iTunes store. You won't have to redownload them all again if you rebuild your library
    • Unlocking functionality that tries to find the unencrypted versions of cached artwork in the iTunes library

Disclaimer

Please note: underCover is in an early stage of development. While it generally works, there are a couple of known bugs and probably a whole lot of unknown bugs. It may work as advertised for you, but it might just as well destroy all your data and engage in a kitten killing spree (I've never seen it do such nasty things, though).

underCover is in no form affiliated to Apple and/or iTunes. iTunes is a protected trademark of Apple Inc., its usage in underCover is only used to describe functionality.
